We regret to announce that Björk will not be able to perform at the Sydney Big Day Out on Friday 25th January. The decision was made following her performance at the Opera House last night. Doctors have advised Björk to rest due to swelling of the vocal chords.

Björk and the producers of Big Day Out hope for a swift recovery in anticipation of a continued Australian Tour. After a standout show at the Gold Coast Big Day Out this is a great disappointment to Björk, who is on her first tour of Australia in twelve years.

No replacement show is possible. All acts on the Orange stage will move up one spot. New times will be on the website by 7pm. We realise that even though the Big Day Out offers more than 70 amazing acts it is only fair to offer refunds in this particular circumstance; regardless of our existing ticket conditions. However; no partial refunds are possible. For those who have tickets but now do not wish to attend you will have until Monday February 4th to obtain a refund from your point of purchase. Ghostigital have been added to two more dates, one shared with Joanna Newsom as openers. The Chicago Sun-Times described their opening gig in Chicago as such:

"As Curver delivered a punishingly loud electro-clash assault, Einar ranted and raved, prancing about the stage and sometimes bounding off it to stroll down the aisle, only steps behind a portion of the audience that ran for the shelter of the lobby to ride out the storm. Those of us who stayed were rewarded with a provocative performance in the great electronic-punk tradition of Suicide, making you think, laugh and surrender to the glorious noise and chaos, and reminding veteran Björk-watchers of when she first started to fly her freak-flag high."

Top Ten Chart Positions:
Volta went into the USA Charts at Number 9, making it a TopTen hit in the USA, previously Medúlla reached 14. Volta entered UK at #7, #1 in Norway, Iceland and Denmark. It is aswell riding high in other countries: France, Italy and Japan.

There is a lot going on now! The release of Volta is in full swing and thus things are stirred and wheels are whirred into motion!

- There's a contest over at IMEEM for US fans; Enter the Björk Poster Design Contest for a chance to win a trip for two to see Björk LIVE @ Shoreline Amphitheatre on May 19th in Mountain View, CA (including flights, hotel, and 2 passes!). In addition, 2000 Limited Edition posters of the winning design will be printed and handed out at the show.

- Nothing can be confirmed for a second single, but we hear that Michel Gondry and Björk are throwing ideas at each other. Which is good! He's done a few by now; from her very first Human Behaviour on Debut, onto Army Of Me, Isobel and Hyperballad on Post, to Jóga and Bachelorette on Homogenic.

Gondry and Björk met up recently, one week ago to be exact, in New York when The Lower Manhattan Cultural Center honoured them both as "artistic visionaries" at the Downtown Dinner spring benefit.

- Moving on to some tour news - don't forget to check the holy trinity of the gigography, the tour blog and the live section of the forum for all the latest on what goes on at the gigs.

Latest news is that the opening act on the Chicago show on saturday will be none other than Ghostigital, so Björk will be sharing the stage with Einar Örn yet again (6 months since the Sugarcubes reunion gig in Iceland) - not simultaneously though, as he will need the space to fit Curver and the rest of the musicians on the stage, so they can perform their own songs. And then the lovely Joanna Newsom fills in as opening act for next tuesday and saturday. Bjork has an explanation why she decided to call her latest album, "Volta." Below is Bjork's quote taken from her official website. Here Bjork explains the meaning of Volta.

"I am always looking for words that have some sort of energy Usually the name just comes, from a magazine or somebody says something I had waited for years while working on the album but it didn't come In the lyrics there are words like "voltage" and "voodoo", which I found to be too common somehow

I have always tried to choose titles which are kind of latin or something, which aren't english, which is a little funny because we europeans find latin to be sort of neutral language... But I found Volta... I don't recall how it came about, but I Googled it and found that it is both the name of a scientist in Italy who invented the battery and also a river in Africa which had been built by men and a lagoon built by men called Lake Volta So several parts come into it

I'm not going to name anything specific, people can guess for themselves what it is There is also a mideval dance with carries that name, a very funny dance which is very hard to learn Thusly, I got a lot of things in one word: a dance, a river in Africa which doesn't work anymore, and the battery So okay - this fits. "

Volta special and live from United Palace

The countdown in less than two digits has started for Volta. We bring our attention to the Volta special, the centre of information and entertainment! Enjoy!

The fourth Volta podcast is now available. And Earth Intruders aswell.

NPR Music and WNYC (New York's Public Radio) will offer a live Web stream of Björk’s sold-out performance from the United Palace in New York City on Saturday, May 5. The concert will be streamed live at www.NPR.org/music. WNYC will offer an encore broadcast on Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m. EST both on the radio and via Web stream at www.WNYC.org. Contrary to reports a free mp3 is not on the cards.

On a side note, the band Obadiah Parker just released a live album featuring a version of their YouTube-famous video'd cover of 'Who Is It' (which, funny enough isn't available on YouTube anymore, so here it is on Google Video). Check out their website for more info.

Bjork Innocence Video

An idea is born. The idea is to make the video. The video to Innocence, a song of yet to be released Volta record. Who is to make the video? Another idea is born: It is to be you, my dear!

Björk has suggested the idea, that the video to Innocence of Volta is to be made by anyone who wants to. She has asked the Madwebcarpenters to help out in finding "you" to make the video. We said: Yes.

We will for convenience sake call this a competition as it will be Björk who will choose the video and maker to work with.

The deal is thus, people can download creative tools and use them in the videomaking:

The timeline is that the video needs to be ready at the beginning of August, when Björk will collaborate with the winner to complete the video. Even though creative tools are provided, it is not an necessity to use them. We just love the sculpture!!!

The Song will be available for pre-listen as of now.

Nothing left to do but to get to know Innocence properly!

Björk @ Saturday Night Live

Björk will be the musical guest on an episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Scarlett Johansson, on the 21st of April. Björk has previously visited that show to perform 'Bachelorette' in 1997, and back in 1988 singing 'Motorcrash' and 'Birthday' with The Sugarcubes with host Matthew Broderick

Some info on how to get tickets for it: For stand-by tickets, arrive no later than 7:00am on the morning of the taping under the "NBC Studios" marquee on the 50th St. side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. You may choose a stand-by ticket for either the 8:00pm dress rehearsal or the 11:30pm live show. Only one ticket will be issued per person. Please note that a stand-by ticket does not guarantee admission.

Bjork Volta Concerts in Reykjavik

Volta Concerts Start in Reykjavik
Last Monday Björk kicked off her Volta world tour with a concert in hometown of Reykjavik. Joining her on stage was Mark Bell, Jónas Sen, Damien Taylor, Chris Corsano and the 10 piece female brass band.

The was the debut of the line up which will be bringing us the joyful music over the next months. Björk played to capacity filled hall, doing songs from all her albums, most of them with new arrangements. It was an nerving and exciting experience for us MWC's as we had not, like the rest of the crowd heard the news Volta songs before. But they were fantastic! And it did not spoil having Antony duet with Björk for Dull Flames of Desire.

As previously we have now rekindled our gigography section, where we will post pictures, setlist and reviews from the upcoming concerts.We should also point out to a podcast which is very interesting!

But it it was not only a first for the songs, it was also a first for Jónas Sen who will be playing "the organ" during the tour. He will be blogging his way through it here on bjork.com with his first blog being part of this news piece. So let us welcome him!

Never mind what it is about, nothing relaxes me like a good thriller. And after our first concert together in Laugardalshöllin last Monday, I really need to relax.I am a classical pianist and this was the very time first time I play in a rock concert. Nothing could have prepared me for the mad reaction of the public. I guess the concert went well - people were screaming and security guards had to keep the front line in check.I am not complaining! I am just not used to this. In my world, concert goers applaud politely. If they really like what you are doing, they give you a standing ovation. The craze Björk’s music seems to evoke took me completely by surprise.I went home right afterwards. Lay in my sofa and stared at the wall for two hours. I felt like a virgin who had just been deflowered. And this time it was for real."

Bjork Volta Collaborators:

Timbaland (R&B and hip hop producer; he has worked with Björk on three tracks on the album. Seven tracks in total were recorded during the recording session which lasted for 3 hours and took place in Studio 4 at Manhattan Center Studios in New York City, USA.

Jimmy Douglas and Halsey Quemere were engineer and assistant engineer respectively. Timbaland had stated that he intended one of the tracks he did with Björk to appear on his new solo album but this did not materialise. The lead-off single from Volta, "Earth Intruders", is co-produced by Timbaland, as well as the tracks "Innocence" and "Hope")

XFM has an interview with Björk out now where they discuss Volta. (It's in a members area so you'll have to register to reach it.) In it, she reveals some things about her first music video off the album:It's sort of a justice song. Like, "we want justice NOW" song. So I ended up feeling "how on earth am I gonna do that visually?"... and I ended up finding an animator who's French, but he was brought up in Africa, and did gorgeous cartoons, for example one called Kirikou. I just think he portrays people with dark skin in a very on-level sort of way that is very equal. It's not like the colony style that I think Africans are exhausted with, kind of like "oh, I'll kill the tiger and put its head on my wall", like it's an exotic creature or something. I mean, me being from Iceland, I've never seen an elf in my life, but still 20 years later, everybody calls me "elfin" or whatever. So basically, Michel Ocelot is doing the video to this one. And it's animated. And it's about the Earth Intruders.

Volta is the name of the album and the date is May 7th. The Press release reads thus:

"Musical innovator Björk releases her next studio album ‘Volta’ on May 7th 2007.

‘Volta’ is Björk's sixth studio album and follows the release of ‘Medúlla’ in 2004.

Featuring ten new and original tracks, ‘Volta’ is written and produced by Björk, with three tracks co-produced with Timbaland and Mark Bell.

In the role of producer Björk has brought in various other musicians to work on her songs and ‘Volta’ features some of her most interesting collaborations so far with Antony Hegarty (Antony And The Johnsons) singing on two tracks, and Timbaland (Jay-Z, Missy Elliot etc) working with Björk on beats that she created for three further songs.

Other artists that feature on ‘Volta’ include electronic pioneer Mark Bell of LFO and two unique drummers – Chris Corsano (the improvisational drummer who has worked with Sonic Youth amongst others) and Brian Chippendale from Lightening Bolt.
